01What is absent

• No network stack. Not disabled — not compiled. There is no code in the running kernel capable of opening a socket, so there is no configuration mistake that could expose one.
• No storage drivers. The kernel cannot mount your hard disk. It is not that we choose not to; it is that the capability was never built in.
• No swap, no hibernation. Nothing pages memory out to a disk that would survive the power cycle.
• No telemetry, no analytics, no error reporting. Nothing in the same execution context as your key is capable of phoning anywhere.

02What destruction actually means

When you power off, RAM loses its contents. We should be precise about that, because the word “destroyed” is used loosely in this industry:

• DRAM retains its contents for a short window after power is cut — seconds at room temperature, longer if deliberately chilled. An attacker with physical access to your machine within that window, and specialist equipment, is a real if narrow threat.
• The stick zeroes key material in memory before shutdown rather than relying on power loss alone.
• Because nothing is ever written to disk, there is no file remnant, no journal entry, no swap page and no shell history to recover afterward.

03The read-only editions

The METALLIC edition is hardware write-protected: the stick physically cannot be modified after it leaves us, so the software you boot is the software we shipped. Nothing on your computer can alter it, because the write path is severed in hardware rather than in software.
